Muscular Dystrophy- survival
I attended a fundraiser walk for people living with Muscular Dystrophy. A few things disturbed me. One- There was not many people there for being a city event. Two- $200 buys two minutes of muscular dystrophy research. Three-Organizers and participants are not helping solve the problem! Yes, I said it! Let me explain why. While walking behind some participants I noticed the back of our shirts. The sponsors were, Coca Cola, Tastykake and starbucks to name a few. Do we not understand what this stuff is? These companys make billions contributing to the United States’ Obesity Epidemic. These corporations produce products that have no health benefits what so ever.
If one has a muscular problem that is known to weaken and waste away muscles wouldn’t they eat a diet of nutrient dense foods? Providing the body with the best nutrition possible is the only thing that will prolong an active life. Muscular Dystrophy is a huge problem and in order to make the best of a shitty situation the diagnosed, the families and organizers of such events need to focus on nutrition rather than worrying about raising money for a cure. I know you are probably saying that I am harsh but it’s true. Do you know that after the walk was over they had food! Yes! FOOD! They had Bagels and cream cheese (terrible unnecessary carbohydrates that only fatten up our bodies), Coke and Diet Coke (takes rust of bumpers and cleans blood stains, need I say more?), Hot Dogs! MMMMMM! (Poorly treated animals that live in their own feces, pumped with antibiotics and then made into a paste then placed in an intestine and served to you!)
It’s simple. Provide your muscles with nutrition that will keep them healthy. That is square one. Fix your eating habits by providing your muscles with an environment to live in. Vitamins, minerals, proteins, essential fatty acids and and exercise routine will help sustain an active life. Muscular dystrophy or not… proper eating habits will allow you to live an active life. Don’t make excuses
