Active Release With Foam Rollers
Static stretching (holding a stretch for time) is a great technique to use after a workout for increased flexibility. However, muscles get tight and no amount of stretching will allow the muscle to relax. Some people go to a masseuse, but who can afford that? Most athletes need to have 1-2 massages a week and unless your a professional athlete, your not getting enough. A simple creation, the Foam Roller (I get pissed when I see something so simple that people are making money off of…sad face), has made it into training rooms and gyms all over the country. This tool can in conjunction with dynamic and static stretching to re-establish soft tissue function.
Re-establishing soft tissue function should be a part of an athletes workout in order to regain full functional range of motion. Full functional range of motion will bring balance to the body system lessening the imbalances. Athletes overcompensate or alter their movements when there are muscle imbalances. This will lead to injuries, further muscular imbalances and tighter muscles. The active release techniques used on a foam roller will establish soft tissue function, by lessening the tightness around the knees, glutes and lower lumbar region. Make the foam roll a part of your workouts and designate a day where you can warm-up, dynamic stretch and then self massage your muscles. This will ensure you are doing all that needs to be done to become the best athlete that you can. Get your foam roller here in the “Rehab Equipment” area.
