Water-The Best Thing on Earth! Wait, Is That Snapple?

2010 March 2

Hydration is the key to recovery… and the rest follows.  I am not 100% sure if this statment is accurate but, “70% of earth has water covering it and our bodies contain 70% water.” Makes you think doesn’t it?  When I drink water I always say “this is the best invention ever!” Okay it’s been here for millions of years and something thing had to create it (not going to get into a religious debate here).  Why is it that water is so important for us to consume?

1. The majority of every cell in the body is made up with water
2. Water is the major part of the sweat, tears, and saliva
3. It is the biggest part of the blood and lymph systems, carrying food and oxygen to the cells and carrying away waste out of the body
4. It helps control the blood pressure by balances the electrolytes
5. Water flushes the kidneys to get rid of toxic substances in the body
6. It helps moisten the eyes, mouth, and nasal passages
7. It regulates the body temperature, keeps it cool when it is hot and insulates the body from cold
8. It is also a shock absorber to cushion the body’s organs
9. It lubricates joints so you can move without pains
10. Good water can provide many of the trace minerals that the body needs

Okay so I stole the top 10 list.  You can go to here for the rest of the authors article Click here!

All of these top 10 result in one thing… a perfectly operating body system. If your body is performing at it’s best at the cellular level, then it will operate well in athletic competitions. Simple as that! Increased recovery time, increased transportation of nutrients, decreased injuries and improved sport performance!

It’s key to note that .66 ouncer per pound body weight is sufficient enough. Always increase the amount of water you drink if physical activity is increased, if it’s hot out, and if you consumed foods containing large amounts of sodium… and remember this if your thirsty… your already dehydrated!
