BlueBerries A Must

If you are not eating blueberries daily, you better start.  Blueberries have been found to be a powerful antioxidant because of its high concentrations of anthocyanin. Anthocyanin is the pigments red, purple or blue depending on the acidity of the plant (ph).  This pigment has been shown to withstand the sun’s rays as a natural sunscreen.  Blueberries are in the sun for hours a day. For them to grow, live and ripen they need protection from the sun. According to research, Anthocyanin does this along with providing benefits against cancer, aging, decreasing vision, neurological diseases, diabetes, bacterial infections, and inflammation.

Working out and daily life activities produce toxins that circulate through our bodies, destroying cells, DNA or causing cell mutations. Cell mutation is… you guessed it the beginning stages of a cancerous future.

The downside to blueberries is that they are DAMN EXPENSIVE in the supermarkets. You would be lucky to get 2 for $5.00.  If you live by a blueberry farm go to the farmer and see if you can pick your own.  Here in New Jersey there are a few blueberry farms that charge $5.00 a crate.  These crates account for 25+ supermarket packages and for only $5.00.  Picking your own blueberries can be an enjoyable experience, by getting out in the fresh air and by picking your own food you will find greater enjoyment when consuming them.  Now you will have so many blueberries you won’t even know what to do with them.  Here are a few ideas:

  • Freeze them.
  • Keep them in an air tight container in the fridge and snack on them throughout the day.
  • Cook them in your pan cakes.
  • Blend them in your protein shake or smoothie.
